Beyond the educational value of reading a book with your child, we know how it fills our hearts to spend that time with our children, watching their worlds open up through reading.
Jen Zimmermann, our store manager and buyer has 3 children and was a kindergarten teacher for 7 years. She just finished reading “The Reading Promise: My Father and the Books We Shared” and has this to say about it.
“A memoir by Alice Ozma, this book is not about the books themselves but about relationships and how books can help create stronger bonds in those relationships. Alice and her father vowed to read together for at least 10 minutes for 100 consecutive nights.
“ When they reached the 100th night, they did not want their time together to end. Thus began the “streak.” Alice and her father continued to read together every night until she left for college. I loved how Alice tied books to her life experiences and how they shaped her. I was touched by Alice’s father and his amazing dedication to his job as a librarian and to his daughter.
“There were lots of little life lessons throughout the book but the overall theme was about the importance of reading to your child every night which, in itself, is one of life’s greatest lessons!
“This book is a quick read and well-worth your time.”
