  • Game Night: New from Blue Orange

Although I may be moving my way towards adulthood… I am still a kid at heart! And Game Night is still among my number one choices on a Friday night!

Since beginning at the store, Blue Orange has continually impressed me with their high-quality and award-winning games. With each game designed with skill building and maximum fun in mind, I am always eager to see what these “game-gurus” will come up with next. The simple yet sophisticated strategy game, Niya, has easily become one of my favorites. This modern version of Tic-Tac-Toe really makes you think! But because Niya has become my go-to, I decided to steal a few of the new Blue Orange games from the store… I will get the dice rolling, the cards dealt, and let you know what I think!

    DSC_0476Thumbs Up

    Ages 6 and up

    2-6 Players

Race to scoop the loops! The goal is to be the first to stack different colored rings on your thumb, based on the order shown on the given challenge card. Trust me, this is not as easy as you think! The challenge cards will require each player to focus on the order of numbers and match their colors. Different variations of play make this a must-have party game that is just as fun for the little ones as it is for the big ones! I absolutely love this game! And even though I was far from the best player, the difficulty kept me wanting to play again and again!

    Ring It!DSC_0448

    Ages 5 and up

    2-9 Players

Clap and ring your way to victory! Players continuously flip over their cards until a combination is found. Be the first to find the combo, clap your hands, and ring the bell! Hesitation may cost you first place, but if you act too quickly you may make a mistake and face a penalty. This fast-paced family game will cause chaotic clapping followed by lots of laughter! This is definitely the game to bring out when you have a large group of people together. The more players you add to this game, the more excitement! My big, crazy family had too much fun with this little, but intense game!

    DSC_0468Super Genius

    Ages dependent on learning skill

    1-6 Players

Developed hand-in-hand with learning professionals, the Super Genius game was specifically created with early learners in mind. With multiple versions, this brilliant learning game works to  prepare early learners for the more complicated language, reading, and mathematics skills to come! Similar to the classic Spot It!, there is alway a match between two cards. Players must find a pair. If playing Super Genius Reading, you must look for a pair between a word and a matching image, two images, or two words. If playing a mathematics version of Super Genius, you must look for a pair between an equation and an answer, two equations, or two answers. As a newly hired teacher, I can see Super Genius being a hit among my students (not to mention, with me). I cannot wait for Blue Orange to introduce several more versions of this game!

Want to try out a game for yourself? We have games for every age, from toddlers all the way to adults, and we want to show YOU how to play them. So stop by the store and play a game with any of our staff members!

  • Outside the Box: FunBites

Welcome to our how-to video series, Outside the Box. If you have never tuned in to watch an episode, this is where we take our favorite products outside of their packaging to explore how they work.

In this episode, we’re all in favor for playing with our food as we test out the award-winning food cutter, FunBites! Hoping to make mealtime less stressful and more fun, FunBites super sturdy and durable curved blade cuts kids’ food into bite-sized fun shapes. Working on tons of kid-friendly foods, FunBites is easy as 1, 2, 3! Simply remove popper top, place cutter on top of the food, and press down. While holding the handles, firmly rock back and forth making sure to cut all the way through the food. Finally, insert the popper top to pop out the bite-sized pieces! This product makes food so much fun that even the pickiest eaters cannot resist!

Thank you for watching! What do you think? What product would you like to see featured in our next Outside the Box video?

  • Preparing for Summer Vacation: Readiness Kits Review/ Ladies Night Summer Kick-Off

DSC_0979School’s out for the summer… Now what? Of course summer vacation is a time to have some fun, but a teacher’s worst nightmare is their kiddos losing the concepts and skills they worked so hard to gain throughout the year! In fact, most students lose about two months worth of grade level equivalency in mathematical computation skills and reading achievement during their summer break.

Because parent involvement plays a key role in filling in those gaps over the summer, I wanted to share my favorite new product for parents to use as an at-home resource. Perfect for the summer, the Learning Resources Readiness Kits provide the necessary tools for both child and parent to practice both previously learned as well as brand new academic skills.

Each kit contains an assortment of colorful manipulatives and other hands-on tools (the same ones used by teachers), an Activity Book for children, and a guide created just for parents. Giving parents the opportunity to provide their child with scaffolded instruction, each concept within the guide includes a sequence of Ready, Set, and Go activities working towards allowing the child to independently complete the tasks.

The kits are made for soon-to-be preschoolers, kindergartners, and first graders! Each kit features a popular classroom theme. The kit that I opened up to play with was Under the Sea First Grade themed! This box is packed full of materials making learning exciting while also targeting the essential skills for the child’s upcoming grade. I would certainly recommend this product to parents and teachers!

Are you still on the search for some awesome summer products to keep your little ones busy? Grab your girlfriends and join us for our Ladies Night Summer Kick-Off event! On Thursday, May 21st from 6 to 8 PM, our staff wants to show you the best products to keep your kiddos moving and learning this summer! And, of course we will have some fun doing it... So, come take advantage of our special discounts on selected summer items, play ring toss for additional discounts, play "I Spy" bingo to learn more about fun summer activities, allow our expert staff to answer all your questions, and enjoy refreshments and treats!

We always like to hear from you... What products, toys, and resources are you looking for to enjoy with your kids this summer break?

  • Meet the Owners

You have probably seen these two ladies running about the store or working their tails off in their back-room nook. Together, they serve to keep all of the working parts of the store running smoothly! Meet our owners, Jen and Kristen!

DSC_0874 “It is great to see kids playing in our store or hearing them say, ‘Wow! I love this store!’… I just love bringing joy to children!”

    Jen Zimmermann

Working to find the best new products, Jen enjoys keeping our product-mix fresh, exciting, and up to date. She can also be found livening up the store with her enthusiastic attitude and country music jam sessions!

CSC_0881 “My favorite part of working at Launching Success is that no two days are the same. There are always different customers and different problems to help them solve.”

She is definitely the store’s problem-solver always eager and willing to help our customers as well as our employees!

We adore both Jen and Kristen! We cannot thank them enough for all they do. When you see them around the store, be sure to tell them just how awesome they are!
